Love. My favorite emotion to photograph.

It’s universal. One of the most basic of human needs. Instantly recognizable, yet infinitely nuanced. And it’s what I’m most passionate about documenting for families who trust me to. Yes, love. I like to think I bottle it up for my clients. Following are some of my favorite photos that I’ve made highlighting love.

‘The supreme happiness in life consists in the conviction that one is loved.’ ~ Victor Hugo

Their little heads resting on each other, they found a way to connect even all swaddled up. These sweet newborns were in someone’s arms getting loved on for their entire documentary fresh 48 session. As I was packing up to leave the hospital, Mom and Dad popped them into a bassinet and I was finally able to make a portrait of just the two of them.

‘She’s half my soul and half my heart. Without my twin I’d fall apart.’

Ah, end of the day snuggles in Mom’s bed… with one kid only half-dressed after a bath.

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because the reality is finally better than your dreams.” ~ Dr. Seuss

This grandfather was just so taken with his new granddaughter. I thought his heart was going to burst out of his chest.

‘To the world you may be one person, but to one person, you are the world.’ ~ Bill Wilson

A young boy gently places a beaded necklace on his Great-Grandmother.

‘Between the Earth and the sky above, nothing can match a grandmother’s love.’

Eskimo kisses before bed.

‘A daughter is a little girl who grows up to be your best friend.

My three children hugging each other before bed.

‘Side by side, or miles apart, we shall always be connected by heart.

On a mini vacation, a father cradles his daughter in the hot tub while kissing her feet.

‘There is this girl who stole my heart and she calls me Daddy.’

You’re never too old to cuddle with your mom.

‘Of all the gifts life has to offer, a loving mother is the best of them all.’

Stealing a kiss while making sure she doesn’t get burned.

‘Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.’ –Elizabeth Stone

This is a self-portrait I took, hugging my daughter the night before she went back to college after winter break.

‘For all the things my hands have held, the best by far is you.’
