Hey there! Anna here! Are you looking for the easiest, most natural, most memorable family photos ever? Photos that celebrate your life? Family photos that are DIFFERENT from all the rest?

A self-portrait. Quarantine: the start of my in-home hair stylist journey.

Are you tired of the same old, same old when it comes to family photo sessions? Unsatisfied with mini sessions where your photos look like everyone else’s in town? Sick of stressing that you’re going to be 15 minutes late and miss your entire session? Tired of the headaches associated with family portraiture? Making sure everyone cooperates and smiles until their lips quiver strangely and the irritation is palpable? Wanna jump OFF the bandwagon??!! If you answered yes to any or all of the above, documentary family photography may be just the thing for you!!

A self-portrait with my two youngest. Empty chair right next to me and yet both my littles are in the chair with me.

With documentary family photography, it feels like you’re hanging out with a friend for the day. You do your normal thang and I tag along and create ARTWORK from your typical, run-of-the-mill, crazy-ass day. Seriously. No posing, just living! It’s fun, it’s easy, and it’s REAL. No fake BS. No awkward smiles. No rushing to be on time. My favorite? No dressing up! Funny story — I hired a documentary family photographer for a vacation with extended family at the beach in CA. Yeah, my 5 year old son legit wore his pajamas the entire time we were at the beach… so did my mom?!

Here we all are, taking on Newport Beach, CA (photo cred: Sam Stancliff)

And you know what? I treasure those pictures. I could care less what my kids choose to wear on photo day, I just want them to be happy! These are the kinda memories I want to look back on. The kind of memories I want to blow up and hang on my walls and fill our family photo albums with. Why? Because family photojournalists (another term for documentary family photographers) capture photos that highlight your family members’ unique personalities and showcase the beauty and nuances of the many relationships within your family, including beloved pets.

A self-portrait with my cat. She went missing a year ago and I treasure this photo I made with her curled up on my lap as I worked.

Looking back through your photos from a day-in-the-life session allow you to relive that day with astonishing emotion and detail, even years later. This is why ALL of my sessions include credit toward heirloom quality print products of YOUR choice.

A self-portrait with my oldest. A hug the night before she went back to college.

Enough about what I do… who am I? I’m a mom, an artist, a vegan, an anti-racist, an environmentalist, and a runner, to throw out just a few labels. I love laughing and learning (not necessarily together, but that’s cool too). I encourage drinking straight out of the milk carton and eating straight out of any and all containers to reduce the # of dirty dishes I must clean. I love traveling. I convinced my husband to get married along the Cliffs of Moher (neither of us are Irish) and lived in Vladivostok, Russia with my oldest daughter for three months back in 2010.

Cliffs of Moher on our wedding day… and downtown Vladivostok with my oldest.

Forget the chocolate, I survive on everything bagels piled high with sprouts on hummus and a never ending stream of homemade salsa, which can never have enough cilantro or hot peppers 🔥. I don’t care for sugar, but salt and grease?! Yes, please!

A self-portrait with my son. Pretending to dunk him in the pool after he splashed me.

I love games. Logic games, goofy games, creative games, and sports. I played soccer, softball, and rugby through the years. And I love adventure! I used to go bridge jumping as a kid and sky diving is on my bucket list, as well as thru-hiking the Appalachian trail.

A self-portrait with my youngest. Just gave her a haircut and got a kiss ❤️

When I was younger and learned that the devil’s number was 666, I tried calling him on the phone. I still wonder to this day what I would have said if he’d picked up 😂 I was born an introvert and still lean that way, but have become equally comfortable as an extrovert and I think I have many people fooled! Anyhoo, enough about me! Please take a look around my website (be sure to check out my portfolio videos HERE) and if you feel all warm and fuzzy and think you’d like these types of photos with you, yes YOU, present with your families, reach out! I’m just a phone call, text, or email away!

xo, Anna
