Family photos in your kitchen? Why not?!

When it comes to your home, the kitchen is one of the rooms where you spend the majority of your time. Known as the ‘heart of the home’; it’s where families (and friends) cook, eat, gather, socialize, and even work (thanks, Covid). Why NOT take family photos in your kitchen? So much of your life takes places here and there are so many ‘Kodak moments’ that happen within. Following are some of my all-time favorite frames that I’ve taken in kitchens, sorted into categories.

Clingy kids

While somewhat annoying at the time, kids hanging on your legs make for some of the sweetest environmental portraits of your kiddos. Why do they always seem more clingy in the kitchen? Are they hungry? Bored? Who knows. Perhaps it’s a combination of the two.

Multitasking

Some of the best multitasking happens in the kitchen! Without photos, you might not remember how talented you are!

Eating

Of course, there’s plenty of eating in kitchens. The logistics of eating is often a tad more complicated with kiddos. Another situation that is not particularly enjoyable in the moment, but makes for some fabulous photos/memories.

Silliness

So much silliness. I think this first girl was a cat in a former life, I have more photos of her on the countertops than on the floor. I just love how she’s deftly maneuvering across the sink here.

Love

There’s plenty of affection that happens in kitchens.

Arts & Crafts

Little kids with big attitudes are the best. She’s definitely questioning what the heck mom created here.

Mini Helpers

The little ones always want to be in on the action, too bad that trails of significantly as they age and become more capable.

Naps

Haha. You just never know what might happen in the kitchen. Exhausted parents everywhere will take literally any opportunity to lie down and rest, even if it’s on the kitchen floor. Would be nice if it’s clean, but definitely NOT mandatory. Am I right?

Holiday Traditions

So many traditions center around food and thus, the kitchen.

Cooking

Last, but not least, there’s of course plenty of cooking that happens. Which, as with everything else, is much more interesting with kids.
